Description of Visp 1.0: Visp is a Microsoft Visio add-on application which acts as both a command-line editor and lisp interpreter. It gives the Visio user the flexibility to type commands or run custom programs. Visp can be used to customize and make Visio a more productive asset. The brief discussion below highlights and explorers a few of Visp’s features:Command-Line Editor Providing over 550 keyword commands, Visp is a command-line editor that works as part of the Visio environment. Typical of text editors today, it has many of the basic functions: context menus, undo, redo, cut, paste, along with a built in history, enabling quick access to already executed lines with simple keystrokes. Constants There are over 2770 predefined constants that ship with Visp. Constants like visInches, visOK, visTrue, etc. These are listed with their values in the Visp Help. Of course anyone can create constants at anytime with the lisp language and have them load each time Visp loads. Constants are indispensable when creating lisp expressions. Lisp Interpreter The lisp interpreter, based on XLISP 3.3, supports most Visio objects, properties, and methods. Objects, along with their data and functions, are easily accessed through lisp expressions. Even events can be monitored through lisp. With just simple lisp expressions, Visio becomes a very powerful language-driven graphics system. Whether writing small or large programs, Visp is a solid solution to customizing Visio. Visio Objects Most objects available through Visio and its COM interfaces are available in Visp. In fact, when totaled, there are over 1500 objects, properties, and methods. Objects can be easily obtained and modified. For example, to get the name of the Visio application from the command line just type: (vapp “name”) It’s that simple.
